AG's prestressed flooring is manufactured in depths ranging from 100mm – 500mm and can be designed to meet most project criteria in a wide range of building types. We don’t approach hollowcore as a commodity product – our team of designers and engineers collaborate closely with customers to ensure that what they get for each project is the best possible, yet most cost-effective, solution.

It's faster and more cost-effective

Combined with our proven logistical abilities, the convenience of hollowcore flooring means that your build can be extremely efficient. Once the floor units are in position and grouted, they provide an immediate working platform for follow-on trades. As propping ls not required in most cases, the area below the floor remains free from congestion – allowing other trades to progress unhindered. Shuttering wet concrete is also virtually eliminated, so the whole process is faster, cost-effective and far more efficient. We can offer these products on a supply-only contract or we can supply expert installation by our own fully qualified teams who will complete the package in a professional, safe and efficient way.

Fire resistance

AG prestressed hollowcore floor units have a minimum one hour fire rating as described in BS EN 1992-1-2.

Sound resistance

AG hollowcore floor units have a high resistance to both impact and airborne sound transmission and contribute to satisfying the latest building regulations.

Finishes

Our units are cast on heated steel casting beds, providing a high standard of formed finish (BS8110 Type A or Ordinary Finish as described in BS EN 13670). The soffit is suitable for direct application of a textured paint finish where this is applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Plaster finishes are not recommended on longer spans, but where intended, it may be necessary to use a bonding agent in accordance with the plaster manufacturer’s instructions.

Camber

Prestressed units have an inherent upward camber and appropriate allowance should be made in finishes to cater for this. Camber should not normally exceed L/300. Differential cambers will arise with units of different lengths or where changes in span direction occur.

Composite Flooring

Hollowcore flooring can be combined with an in situ structural concrete topping to form a composite slab. This allows the engineer to tie in other details such as balconies, maximum load distribution and minimum structural depth.

Final Product Testing

In addition to AG's commitment to use only top quality raw materials – which are tested both in house and independently to confirm quality – hollowcore floor units are routinely and randomly selected from the production line and load tested for compliance using industry standard practices.

AG continually review products in light of both in house and external research, and development work that has been carried out on prestressed hollowcore units throughout Europe and beyond. This helps ensure that we remain at the forefront of hollowcore unit technology and that our customers get the highest quality products, designed using the industry’s most up-to-date methods.

Bearings

All bearings should be level and true with no debris. On masonry bearings there may be a requirement to provide a mortar bed, prior to the placement of units.

Progressive Collapse Design

Hollowcore units can be used for a disproportionate collapse design. Please refer to the technical drawings section of our website or contact our technical department for full details.

Service Openings

Service openings with a diameter less than 75mm can be created through units after installation by drilling centrally through the cores. You must consult with our design office before commencing this work.

Generally service openings up to 300mm wide in a single standard unit width are permitted, subject to satisfying design criteria. These should be factory formed. Openings up to 1200mm can usually be accommodated, subject to design criteria, using structural steel hangers supplied by AG at an extra cost.

All service openings formed by AG are to be made good by the main contractor after installation of service pipes etc.
